Challenging Ideas in an Academic Seminar

A:I take your point about the sample size, but I wonder if we're overlooking the qualitative angle here.
学者B:Have you considered the fact that the qualitative data was self-reported? That's usually where this literature runs into trouble.
学者A:I'm very aware of the challenges there, but self-report isn't automatically unreliable — it depends on how the interviews were structured.
学者B:Fair enough. How exactly do you see this working methodologically, though — triangulated against the quantitative set, or standing on its own?
学者A:Triangulated, ideally. I think we agree on the goal here; we're just approaching the execution differently.
学者B:Agreed. Let's flag that as an open question for the discussion section rather than settle it now.

I take your point about X, but I wonder if...
Have you considered the fact that...?
I'm very aware of the challenges here, but...
How exactly do you see this working?
I think we agree on the goal here; we're just approaching the execution differently.
Let's flag that as an open question rather than settle it now.

  • "I take your point, but..."
  • 追问式挑战("How exactly do you see this working?")
  • 收尾的"agree to disagree"类句子("Let's flag that as an open question")用平稳的降调、音量略微收小,传达"讨论到此可以体面结束",不需要再争。
