- 「He was to become Prime Minister twenty years later」——
- 除了常见的 would 和 was going to,C2 还要会 was to (have)、was about to、was on the point of、was due to 这几种更精确的说法。
基本形式:would / was going to
- She knew she would miss her family.(她知道自己会想家。)
- I was going to call you, but I forgot.(我本来要打给你,但忘了。)
📌 was going to 常暗示计划没实现。
was / were to + 原形:命运、后来真的发生
- In 1957, he met a young lawyer who was to become his closest adviser.
- It was a decision they were to regret for years.
was / were to have + 过去分词:原本安排好,但没发生
- The concert was to have taken place in Bukit Jalil, but it was cancelled.(演唱会原定在武吉加里尔举行,但取消了。)
- She was to have started work on Monday.(她本来星期一要上班的。)
|---|---|
| was to become | 后来真的成为了 |
| was to have become | 本来要成为,但没有 |
was about to:正要……(马上)
- I was about to leave when the phone rang.(我正要走,电话就响了。)
📌 about to 后面不接具体时间:❌ I was about to leave at 5 p.m.
was on the point of / on the verge of + -ing:就要……
- He was on the point of giving up when he finally found a job.
- The company was on the verge of collapse.(on the verge of + 名词也可以)
was due to:按时间表预定
- The flight was due to land at 6, but it was delayed.
- The report was due last Friday.

💡 The concert was to take place in Bukit Jalil, but it was cancelled. The concert was to have taken place...
❌ I was about to leave at 5 p.m. when she called. ✅ I was about to leave when she called.
❌ He was on the point to give up. ✅ He was on the point of giving up.
📌 on the point of + -ing。
